National Pancake Day!!

Yes, There is a national pancake day. I didn't know that until I woke up this morning and my mom told me and my brother! My brother made pancakes and I am now eating them. Here is the hitory of national pancake day!

****NOTE**** *I DID NOT WRITE THIS! I GOT IT OFF OF http://www.chevroncars.com/learn/holidays-seasons/pancake-day**

Many people love to eat warm pancakes covered with butter and syrup in the morning. But did you know that there is actually a holiday where people celebrate and eat pancakes with their families and friends? It is a tradition that started many years ago in England.

Pancake Day is celebrated on Shrove Tuesday which is the day before Lent. Lent is a Christian holiday that was established in the 4th century as 40 days and is generally a period of fasting or other forms of self-denial. People generally eat a lot and have fun the day before Lent begins. Shrove Tuesday is often referred to as Pancake Day because fats, which were generally prohibited during Lent, had to be used up. People would take all the eggs and dairy products that they had left in their kitchens and use them to make delicious pancakes.
In the United Kingdom of Great Britian, Northern Ireland and several other countries around the world, Pancake Day is celebrated with fun, games, and of course a lot of eating. However, the most well known activity on this day is the Pancake Day race at Olney in Buckinghamshire, England which has been held since 1445. It all began when a woman was cooking pancakes on Shrove Tuesday to use up all of her perishables before Lent. While she was still cooking she heard the chiming of the bells summoning her to church. Not wanting to be late, the woman ran to church with her apron on and the frying pan still in her hand. Little did she know that this would start a tradition that would be around for over 500 years!
Only women are allowed to participate in this race. They must run a designated path with a frying pan and end up at the church. They must have a hot pancake in the frying pan which they must flip at least three times before they complete the race. The first woman to complete the race and arrive at church with the pancake is declared the winner. She then serves the pancake to the bellringer and is rewarded with a kiss from the bellringer called the “Kiss of peace”. This race still occurs in England and in several other cities.

Working at ♥God's Mission House♥.........

...makes me feel so happy!! GMH is a place where people who don't have money can come here and get food, clothing, school uniforms, school supplies, and medicine but while helping the family's out they spread the Gospel! It used to be in a very small barn(we had very little room to walk back and fourth). In the past year or so volunteers have built us a new building that is HUGE!!! We have so much space now! We have an actual office now and the big supply room where we pack orders for the customers and everything! We(as in the MH(mission house) workers) got everything moved from the old MH to the new MH over the past couple of weeks! The opening day was Monday and Olivia and I went up there Sunday after church and packed orders! (when I talk about like 1 and 2 orders that just means 1 or 2 in the family) We did I think 20 1&2 orders, 15 3&4 orders and 10 5&6 orders. When me and Olivia went back up there today(Tuesday) Mrs.Linda and Mr. Ernie(the Owners) told us that they ended having to make more orders so many families came! That is INCREDIBLE!!!! What a blessing that was! I love going up there to make orders! When I come home from there I feel so happy to know that I have Helped so many families!

It was in the newspaper! I'm excited about it all! To see pictures click Here http://new.savannahnow.com/node/670375. There are only three pictures. The last one is me and Olivia. The first one is Mrs.Linda and Mr.Ernine cutting the ribbon. The second one is Mrs.Lindas mama who owned it until she died. :-(

;-D

Oh the fun of school! Today we went to co-op and came home and did school. I, today did a good amount of school. The other siblings didn't. Well Aaron is right next to me snoring (We have to get up early for co-op) so he hasn't done anything, and Momo only did like 3 things maybe?!?! This is my last thing and then I am done!!

I am going to small group tonight and I'm so excited!! Why? Because Small group is like the best thing in the world!! We are going to watch the end of Facing the Giants and then do the review or study on it. I'm excited!! I'm actually planning/wanting to go early so I can hang out with Chandler before every one gets there!!
